Storyous is a modern POS system that helps simplify and automate operations. However, for the system to function reliably and efficiently, it is essential to ensure an appropriate network environment.
This article focuses on the key network infrastructure requirements that must be met for optimal operation of Storyous. From connection stability to router specifications, you will learn what steps to take to ensure your system runs smoothly and supports your business's daily activities seamlessly.
Recommended Network Configuration
Use a dedicated subnet for customers and other non-Storyous devices.
Use a separate subnet for Storyous devices to ensure stable and uninterrupted operation.
Device Connection
Connect LAN printers with a direct UTP cable straight to the router.
Whenever possible, connect POS terminals via Ethernet — a wired connection provides more stable performance than Wi-Fi.
- IP Addressing
Storyous devices should be placed in their own subnet with a dedicated IP range, especially if other devices (such as computers, cameras, or additional Wi-Fi access points) are connected to the same network infrastructure.
This ensures stable operation of POS terminals and printers without interference from other network traffic. It is recommended to assign static IP addresses to printers and to the POS terminal connected to the kitchen display.
Use sufficiently powerful network equipment — especially the Wi-Fi router or switch — to handle communication from all connected devices without limiting or slowing down Storyous traffic.
- Communication Between Devices
mDNS broadcasting enabled (allows automatic device discovery on the network).
Devices can communicate with each other on the local network.
- Wi-Fi Settings
The network must be secured with WPA2 or WPA3 encryption.
Select a free Wi-Fi channel to avoid overlapping with nearby networks (e.g., if the router uses channel 1, other networks should ideally be on channel 4 or higher).
Ensure strong signal coverage throughout the entire venue. If needed, add antennas or range extenders to improve coverage.
- Ports and DNS
Port 3331 must be open on the router.
Recommended DNS: DNS 1 – 8.8.8.8, DNS 2 – 8.8.4.4.
Connection Quality
Optimal speed: 10 Mbps (High-speed internet is not required, as the application uses low network bandwidth for synchronization.)
Connection stability is more important than speed:
Low latency (ping): < 300 ms
Low packet loss: < 1%
Use a router that supports packet routing outside the DHCP table or allows reserving static IP addresses for printers within the router.
