This article explains how to change and fix the IP address of your printer. It is divided into two parts: how to change the IP address of the LAN printer and how to fix the IP address to prevent future changes.
How to Change the IP Address of a LAN Printer
In case of a power outage, a router change, or an automatic IP address change by your Wi-Fi router, the IP address of your LAN-connected printer might change. When this happens, the printer will be offline and will not print.
You will need to change the IP address to ensure that the printer works correctly.
Step 1: Self-Test
Before changing the IP address in the POS (Point of Sale) application, you need to print a self-test from the printer that isn’t working. The steps for printing the self-test depend on the printer model:
- XPRINTER Printer
- Ensure the printer is plugged in.
- Turn off the printer on the right side.
- Press and hold the large "Feed" button while turning the printer on.
- Slowly count to 3 and then release the "Feed" button.
- A long piece of paper will print out with the printer's IP address.
- LAN Start Printer
- Ensure the printer is plugged in.
- Turn off the printer on the left side.
- Press and hold the "Feed" button on the front while turning the printer on.
- Slowly count to 3 and then release the "Feed" button.
- Two long papers will print, and the IP address will be printed on the bottom of the second page.
Step 2: Change the IP Address in the POS Application
- On the home screen of your main POS/tablet, open the POS application.
- Log in with your credentials.
- In the POS application, click the menu button in the top-left corner.
- From the menu, select Settings.
- Click on Printers.
- Click on the LAN printer that you printed the self-test from. It should show as offline.
- Click on the Printer Address option, and a new window will open.
- Enter the IP address from the self-test printed by your printer.
- Click OK.
- Log out of the POS application and log back in. The printer should now be online and functioning properly.
Step 3: Test Print
- In the POS application, click the menu button in the top-left corner.
- From the menu, select Settings.
- Click on Printers.
- Select the LAN Xprinter you are connecting to.
- Under the device status, you should see "Online".
- Click on Test Print.
- The connected printer will print a message: “Your device is working correctly”.
How to Fix the IP Address of Your Printer
XPRINTER
To ensure that your printer always has the same IP address, you first need to set a fixed IP in your Wi-Fi router. For this, you can contact your internet service provider for help.
Once the IP address is set in the router, you need to configure it directly in the printer.
- Access the Printer’s Interface
Open a web browser and type the printer's IP address in the address bar. You must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network that the printer is on. If you are, the printer’s interface will appear. - Configure the Printer’s IP Address
On the left side, click on "Configuration" and then select the second option: "Fixed IP Address". In the next three fields, enter the details from the self-test (Device IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway Address): IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway. - Save the Changes
To save the settings, click "Save" under the table. A dialog box will appear where you can confirm the new settings by clicking "OK". - Restart the Printer
Finally, restart the printer by clicking the "Restart" button under the menu.
LAN Star
If you want your printer to always have the same IP address, you first need to set it as a fixed IP in your Wi-Fi router. Contact your internet service provider for assistance with this.
Once the IP address is set in the router, it needs to be configured directly in the printer.
- Check Your Connection
Ensure that your tablet is connected to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the router connected to the printer. Print an informational self-test paper following the instructions above and leave the printer turned on. The last three details on the second paper under "Current IP Parameter Status" are important. - Access the Printer’s Web Interface
On your tablet, open Google Chrome and type the IP address from the self-test (in the format of four numbers separated by periods) into the address bar. This will open the printer’s interface. - Login to the Printer’s Interface
In the printer’s web interface, you will need to configure the device for stable printing. On the left side, first, click the "Login" tab under "System Access". Log in with the username root and the password public. - Configure the IP Settings
After logging in, go to the "Network Configuration" category. Select "IP Parameters", check the "Static" option, and enter the three IP settings from the self-test in the appropriate fields. Confirm the new settings by clicking "Submit". - Enable Multi-Session
Next, go to "System Configuration" and change the second option in the list (#9100 Multi Session) to "ENABLE". Save this setting by clicking "Submit". - Configuration Print
The last step is to perform a configuration print. In the "Save" tab, select "Save - Configuration printing - Restart device" (the longer of the two options) and click "Execute". The printer will print a report with the new settings. This printout is not essential, but it indicates that everything is properly configured.
