Barcode Scanners

In this article you will find an overview of barcode scanners that can be used with the Storyous system. You will learn how to connect them, set them up, and what their practical uses are.

Wireless Virtuos Scanner

The Virtuos is a wireless LED scanner for 1D and 2D codes, which connects via USB or Bluetooth. A charging cradle (dock) is included in the package, into which you simply insert the scanner to charge.
The scanner is able to read codes even from mobile device screens or transparent packaging. Therefore, it is suitable also for operations that work with electronic codes (for example, QR codes on a mobile device).

  • Battery life: approximately 16 hours
  • Charging: via cradle or micro-USB / USB-C
  • Read-confirmation: LED + audible signal

Setup and connection

  1. Plug the cradle (dock) into the USB port of your device. After connection the LED indicator lights up or you hear a beep.
  2. Insert the scanner into the cradle to start charging. The LED indicator stays lit until the battery is fully charged.
  3. Pairing via 2.4 GHz:
    • The 2.4 GHz is a proprietary wireless connection of the scanner to the cradle, which operates in the same frequency band as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, but does not use either of those standards.
    • The cradle (dock) includes a small USB receiver – when you plug it into the tablet or cash register, the scanner communicates with it directly.
    • Data transmission works like with a keyboard – everything you scan is sent to the device as text input (so-called HID mode).
    • If the connection doesn’t work, scan the pairing code from the bottom of the cradle (code: “2.4G Receiver Pairing”).
  4. Bluetooth mode (optional):
    • If you want to use the scanner without the cradle, you can pair it directly via Bluetooth.
    • Scan the programming code from the manual for Bluetooth HID mode, then find the scanner in your device’s Bluetooth settings and pair it.

Setting the volume and sounds
The scanner emits a beep upon successful scanning, and a series of beeps on error. The volume can be adjusted or completely muted using the programming codes in the official manual.
