Menu additions offer a simple way to create additional items that you can assign to a product category or a specific product. You can create menu additions freely according to your needs, so that they meet your sales preferences.
To use menu additions for sales in the Storyous app on your device, you first need to create them in the administration panel.

How to create menu additions?
-
In the left menu, click on Menu Additions.
Important: make sure you’ve selected the correct Business in the top left corner. -
Click on the button + New Category.
-
Fill in the Category Name.
-
Fill in the Min. quantity of menu additions, if necessary.
-
Fill in the Max. quantity of menu additions, if necessary.
Min. Menu Additions
This option allows you to set a minimum number of required menu additions when ordering a specific product. For example, if a waiter selects a Flank steak with options for different meat preparations and the minimum menu additions are set to 1, they must select at least one menu addition (e.g., doneness). If the minimum is set to 0, a window with optional selections will appear that can be skipped.
Max. Menu Additions
This option allows you to set a maximum number of required menu additions when ordering a specific product. If you leave this field empty, the waiter can add an unlimited number of menu additions.
-
Select Product Categories for which the menu additions should be available.
-
Select Products for which these menu additions should be available.
-
Enter the name of the Menu Addition.
-
Select or create the Menu Addition.
Important: In step (9), there are two options for how to add menu additions to the category you're creating. Pay attention to the difference below: Option 1: You do not use inventory management or you don’t want the menu addition to be deducted from the stock. Alternatively, you want to create the menu addition as a note for product specification. Write the name of the menu addition and click on + Menu Item. This option is recommended if you do not need the menu addition to be deducted from stock (depending on whether you are using inventory management). This is better suited for notes, like meat preparation (e.g., medium, rare). Option 2: You are using inventory management and want the menu addition to be deducted from your stock. To create a menu addition this way, you must first create a product and link it to an inventory card (recipe). You can create a separate product category for menu additions, such as "Extras or Add-ons," where you create products like bacon, cheddar, eggs, or other ingredients. You can also link a regular product, like ketchup, to an inventory card. In the menu addition field, type the name of the product. The product you are looking for should be suggested to you, then click on the product. The menu addition linked to the product will appear in red. |
-
If necessary, set the Price for your menu additions.
-
Click the Save button.

How do menu additions appear in the Storyous app?
After setting up menu additions in the web administration, you must log out and log back in for the changes to sync to the app.
Ordering then depends on the settings for the minimum number of menu additions:
-
If this category of menu additions has a set minimum number of menu additions (it doesn’t matter if it's a number or zero), when you click on a product, a dialog window will appear where you can add or remove menu additions.
-
If the category of menu additions does not have a set minimum number of menu additions, you need to click and hold on the product to see a dialog window where you can add or remove menu additions.
In the dialog window, you can use the +/- buttons to add or remove individual menu additions. Adding a menu addition will increase the product price by the cost of the product, or you can remove an ingredient from the product (e.g., if the customer wants the pizza without olives). However, when removing an ingredient, the price of the base product will not decrease.
If a minimum number of menu additions is set, the waiter must select at least one menu addition, otherwise, they won’t be able to confirm the order (e.g., for steak doneness).
If a maximum number of menu additions is set, the waiter can select a maximum number of menu additions. If the waiter chooses more than the maximum number, they won’t be able to confirm the order.
If the waiter does not select menu additions according to the rules above, the Confirm button will not be clickable.
After the order of a product with a menu addition is confirmed, it will appear as a regular ordered product, and all menu additions will be listed below it.
Once the order is confirmed, it is no longer possible to edit the menu additions; the entire order must be canceled and re-entered if necessary.
Ordering multiple products with menu additions
When ordering multiple products, only the quantity of the base product should be selected, and the number of menu additions should not be adjusted; just leave it as 1. If the staff increases the quantity, the number of menu additions and their price will also be multiplied. (See example)
Example 1: 1 product + 1 menu addition I order 1 main course and one side dish. I order 1 Fried Cheese and select 1 portion of Fries for the menu addition. The price corresponds to one main course and one side dish. |
Example 2: 2 products + 2 sides I order 2 main courses and two sides. I order 2 Fried Cheeses and select 1 portion of Fries for each. The price corresponds to 2 main courses and 2 sides. |
